CB8 AAMUP Review Process

AAMUP Community Rezoning

CB8 and our two local city council representatives have been going through the process of reviewing zoning along the length of Atlantic Avenue and neighboring streets. This re- zoning will have an impact on us all for years to come.

The AAMUP proposal has some overlapping resolutions with the Mayor’s City of Yes proposal with a modified version passed by the City Council on December 5th, 2024. To learn more about City of Yes click here.

A steering group of residents in collaboration with City Council Crystal Hudson had also put together a Points of Agreement (POA) document to further guide changes to the community. The POA, currently a working draft, may be viewed here:

Attending CB8 Sub Committee Meetings

UNPCH volunteers have been actively engaged in some of the community events, attending various outreach events and CB8 sub committee meetings to learn and participate in the conversations being had:

Executive Subcommittee on Transportation (EST) Meetings:

The group has participated in the November 26th, 2024 Environmental Sanitation and Transportation (EST) sub committee which began to discuss the AAMUP proposals that pertain to CB8’s geographic area.

Land Use Sub Committee Meeting

Volunteer members attended CB8’s Land Use sub committee meeting on December 5th, 2024 where AAMUP was discussed. The full meeting is available for viewing here:

CB8 AAMUP Voting

On December 12th, 2024 during the general CB8 Meeting, each sub committee had reported back to the executive board on their respective recommendations. The community had an opportunity to weight in and further develop the AAMUP Resolution which was voted on and approved that evening.

What’s Next?

On Wednesday January 15th at 6PM, Borough President Reynoso will be holding a public meeting to discuss AAMUP along with Coney Island and Empire Blvd rezoning plans.

The meeting will be held at Borough Hall Courtroom, 209 Joralemon Street. As well as being recording for viewing on the WebEx platform.

Public comments will be accepted (2 minutes in length) during the meeting and may also be submitted in writing. Email testimony@brooklynbp.nyc.gov no later than Friday, January 17th , 2025.

    After this meeting, there will only be a few more meetings to have the opportunity to weigh in. On February 5th, NYC City Planning Commission will hold a public hearing as well as City Council at an undetermined time as of yet.

    Take the time to read over these proposals and make your voice heard! These proposals will not only impact the zoning and density of the neighborhood. They will also impact street design, usage, and transportation.
